Setting Up a Duet 3 6HC for Voron 2.4 R2 with a 1LC Tool Board and Voron Tap

If you're setting up a Duet 3 6HC with a Voron 2.4 R2 (350x350x350) and a 1LC tool board with Voron Tap, this guide will walk you through configuring your SD card and firmware.

Step 1: Prepare the SD Card

  1. Format the SD card as FAT32.
  2. Download the latest RepRapFirmware (RRF) from Duet3D GitHub.
  3. Copy the firmware files to the /firmware folder on the SD card.

Step 2: Generate the Base Configuration

Use the RepRapFirmware Configuration Tool to generate the JSON configuration file.

  • Board: Duet 3 6HC
  • Motion System: CoreXY
  • Build Volume: X: 350mm, Y: 350mm, Z: 350mm
  • Endstops: None (Voron Tap handles Z probing)
  • Z Probe: Switch probe (digital switch via CAN toolboard)
  • Extruder: Specify based on your hotend (Rapido, Dragon, Revo, etc.)
  • Hotend Max Temp: Set as per manufacturer specs
  • Bed Heater: Define AC/DC heater settings and SSR control

After entering the details, download the configuration files.

Step 3: Modify config.g for Voron Tap & Tool Board

  1. Enable CAN bus communication for the 1LC tool board:
    M950 P0 C"1.io0.out" ; Define probe signal
    M558 P8 C"!1.io0.in" H3 F120 T6000 A5 S0.005 ; Set Voron Tap parameters
    G31 P500 X0 Y0 Z0 ; Adjust Z offset later

  2. Set up the extruder and heater:
M950 S0 C"1.out0" ; Assign heater control to the toolboard
    M563 P0 D0 H1 F0 ; Define tool 0
    G10 P0 X0 Y0 Z0 ; No offsets
    M572 D0 S0.05 ; Pressure advance (tune later)

  3. Set up CAN bus address for 1LC:
    M950 S0 C"1.out0" ; Assign heater to CAN toolboard

  4. Adjust motor steps, currents, and speeds as needed.

Step 4: Install & Update Firmware

  • Upload and install firmware via DWC (Duet Web Control).
  • Use the following commands to update firmware manually:
    M997 B0 ; Update Duet 3 6HC firmware
    M997 B1 ; Update 1LC tool board firmware

Step 5: Verify and Test Configuration

  • Test motion and homing:
    G28 ; Home all axes

  • Test Voron Tap triggering:
    M119 ; Check endstop status

  • Calibrate Z Offset:
    G31 P500 X0 Y0 Z-0.1 ; Adjust based on real offset
