My go to Ender 5 Update to Duet2 WiFi

P1030709

Steps to remove the old control board and move to duet.  The New electronics were not going to fit under the machine so I just put it all on top of the bottom electronics bay

First I'll start with a mistake, the power supply on the ender looked kinda weak so I had a more robust one laying around, after setting up the wires and starting some tests the bed wouldn't heat to full cal temp
I ran M303 H0 S60 for the bed  to calibrate

I realized the power supply i chose was 12 volt, the ender being 24. so back to the ender supply. Also I used an external MOSFET to take the power for bed heat off the duet. the duet will run on either 12 or 24 volt

The ender had a great bed level system from uptanium but they no longer are on line or responding.

I installed bl touch, primarily because i have it installed in all my other systems and i have learned the hookup

The online config program has the bl touch as an option so its pretty easy  https://configtool.reprapfirmware.org/

I had a board with 2.1 firmware   This is the beginning of the update

Copy the new firmware binary file to the /firmware (if RRF 3.3beta1 or later is installed) or /sys folder (for earlier firmware versions)
Also copy the relevant IAP file (see Required Files, above) into /sys
If your board is a Duet WiFi, also copy the new DuetWiFiServer.bin file into /sys

Replace the on-board SD card in the Duet 2 WiFi
Restart the Duet 2 WiFi and connect with Pronterface or YAT
Send command M997 S0 to install the firmware.

M997: Firmware binary "Duet2CombinedFirmware.bin" not found<LF>ok<LF>

This ERROR can be frustrating, if you wind up here try the next option below

Deciding to setup a backup board opened a can of worms, I tried to go through the update firmware using YAT and putting the files on the sd card, this failed and wasted at least an hour trying to remember how to go through the steps, ver1 to ver 2 to ver 3 but the yat kept saying non bin file available,

I realized I could just reset the new duet wifi, completely wipe the board using reset jumper and run BOSSA. this puts the firmware directly to the duet, I downloaded ver 3,2 AND SENT IT OVER AND THAT GOT THAT STRAIGHT https://github.com/Duet3D/BOSSA/releases/tag/1.9.1a-duet3d

  • Load Bossa. It usually detects the correct COM port automatically.
  • Check boxes Erase all, Lock, and Boot to flash
  • Browse to the firmware binary file to be installed, then press Write.

go back to YAT and send m115 to verify the version  mine is 3.2 now

Now to config the wifi

use the command M589 as shown below. Use double quotation marks, but substitute the SSID and WiFi password for your own WorkBee network.

M589 S"your-machine-name" P"your-password" I-ip-adress

As a preset we use the following setup M589 S"WorkBee" P"password" I10.10.10.10

Send command M552 S2 to turn on your Duets Access Point

After a moment, Duet will confirm the connection and the IP address of the Duet controller which we entered in previously.

Your Duet Wifi is now creating its own Access Point. ( The blue light should be on the Wifi module of the controller )

Note: M589 saves the SSID and password to the Duet 2 Wifi. You do not need to run this command every time the board is started.

m552 S0   off wifi

M558 S"*" and it will forget ALL networks  (doesn't work)

m552

M552 s1 m552 s0 m587 s "" P "" define the network

This is my go to printer again. I just leave it on all the time, hit print and check it after a few hours , always a part.

I think the full cage is what makes it so good, I almost sold this unit a couple years back, best offer was 200 and it just didn't make any sense to let it go for that when it's such a great producer
