I have had some great success with linux and am very glad I started working with it. I didn't have a choice but to use Utumbu on a drone build and that was pretty successful, still chipping away on the openvpn setup with docker. My latest move was to install Vanilla Linux distro on my oher computers, I read it had some great securty features and I was not haxing alot of luck with MX or others. Tes it's confusing because there are so many linux options and so many opinions, what's importand is you start working with command line input.
So with that FU microsoft and google.
yes i still have a couple win pcs because they dont run on linux and I still have a couple sic Macs for video editing but all in all the linux decision was a great one
It's very easy these days to create a install thumbdrive. For your security and for development ditch microcrap!
My adventure started about 30 days ago when I read Microshit was going to track user data, so I am in the process of switching my windows desktops to Linux. I started with Ubuntu and gnome. then I tried k something and that sucked. I had to use Ubuntu because I am setting up a drone controller and all the tutorials are using it. I have read it;s not the best choice these days but then again why does there have to be 15 different linux programs. anyway this is my lesson on setting up Iphone
You don’t need to add any additional package repositories to install libimobiledevice. Open a terminal window and type:
sudo apt install libimobiledevice6 libimobiledevice-utils
Once libimobiledevice has installed, try to connect your iPhone. If your iPhone file system doesn’t mount automatically when connected, you may need to pair your iPhone. Open a terminal and type:
idevicepair pair
A success message should appear after running this. Then, run the following:
usbmuxd -f -v
Your phone will ask permission to trust so look for it
The past couple days I have been working with the raspberry pi and install ubuntu and Pi os. what a blast. I'm up and running with 2 desktops as daily drivers. I have a cheat sheet for commands and do online lessons when I can. Yes it's pretty frustrating until you actually use it, thinks like make and the file structure. There is a guy on a google video site names chuck, he is a great teacher, I hope he moves to Rumble soon
i would like to call this a big post because I have been working with linux now for a period of time and have concluded That Mint Linux is my os of choice now. I had to use linux for the rooster drone build because the flight computer and image processors required it. This was a serous shock treatment and I even had a guy come instruct me for a couple hours just to get adb setup and the flight computer talking.
I shelved that project 2 times, each time investing a couple months of reading and kicking and screaming. I was able to get alot accomplished but had to shelve it again because I needed to use canbus for robotics projects and also the PX4 flight computer has it so a few months of that is hhats been happening.
Mint linux is where I ended up, I tried Ubuntu several times and even vanilla and another but all that happens is you end up confused and get nowhere. Mint is difficult also but it is very smooth and there are alot of resources and help communities. My daily driver now is mint and I even have a video editor that uses it.
I totally hate microshit and google as the monster evil corps that they are so I try to avoid them at all costs. Of course I have a few high end macs for the production of video but I use simple editors anyway.
I'm stuck with windows for a couple cnc machines I have but have been looking at linux alternative lately on that front also. Thankfully all of my Arduino controlled machines are linux capable and Cura runs great, that is very helpful, also cad is available free so there is that.
Being able to build a machine and operate it with open source programs is the objective, allowing everyone to be involved not requiring big dollar buy ins
