2nd attempt     update taking over 2 hours, tried to reboot but was denied because i didn't know the password. when installing i skipped the password by pressing enter, when i attempted to reboot the blank password didnt work. 

ERROR   was using the wrong keyboard

 realized this after reformatting the sd card

2  add image 

3. boot and setup 

ok so i have KODI running, I followed the sequance to get it to auto load from boot but that didn't work.

So here is my confession:  I dug this raspberry pi 3b from out of the bottom of the junk drawer because Amazon Prime stopped running NYPD Blue for free. Nows its a couple bucks for a watch so I'm out but disappointed. Having the complete catalog of the Police drama i just put it on a thumb drive and figured Hey, setup a little media player, easy peasy 

of course this drama continues, the thumb drive files are not in the proper fat system, of course the content is 98 gigs so i need a large thumb drive.  That's it for now, I have to still figure out how to network this little box also  so the show goes on
