Backup unit #2 (fake Honda)

Overview

This unit is a larger backup generator with a 220 plug, designed to mimic a Honda generator but at a third of the cost. It was purchased for $400, originally priced at $1000, due to previous ethanol fuel damage.

Annual Inspection

Problem

  • Main jet in the carburetor was blocked.
  • Air filter was deteriorated to the point of disintegration.
  • Fuel lines were still functional but will be replaced due to extended storage.

Solution

  • Disassembled and cleaned the carburetor.
  • Replaced the air filter.
  • Ran a gallon of fuel through the system for about an hour and used power tools to test.
  • Drained the fuel system completely.
  • Ordered replacement air filter and fuel lines.

LP Conversion Kit

Overview

The unit is planned to be converted to run on LP (propane).

Parts

  • Fuel shutoff valve (removed for drying the tank)
  • Replacement seal grommet (part number to be determined)

Steps

  • Remove the fuel shutoff valve to dry out the tank.
  • Replace the seal grommet.

Notes

  • The seal grommet part number can be found at: https://www.ereplacementparts.com/powermate-pm0496750-generator-parts-c-117046_130613_132981.html

Lessons Learned

  • Winterizing is crucial to prevent ethanol fuel damage.
  • Regular inspections and maintenance are necessary to ensure the unit is ready for use during power outages.
