Duet2 wifi adding wifi extender for remote printing
Overview
Setup a closed area location to use WiFi to communicate with 3D printers without a display. Manage multiple printers from a desktop via internet browser.
Parts
- TP-Link RE220 WiFi extender
- Cat wire
Steps
1. Drill a hole and run a Cat wire from the primary router to the TP-Link RE220 WiFi device. 2. Change the mode of the device from range extender to access point. 3. Plug in the network and power. 4. Connect to the TP-Link device network via http://tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254. 5. Rename the new WiFi network (e.g., "3dprint"). 6. Configure Duet WiFi boards with the new SSID name. 7. Log into the device from the regular internet setup (e.g., 192.168.1.12). 8. List and manage connected 3D printers via their IP addresses.
Notes
- The TP-Link RE220 was purchased used on Amazon for $20.
- The device is noted as a "CHINA SPY device" with terms of use that grants the CCP access to data; a more secure device will be used in the future.
- The setup allows for managing printers in another location from a desktop terminal.
Problem
No WiFi penetration in a remote trailer with 6 Duet WiFi-controlled printers.
Solution
Setup a wired connection to a WiFi extender (TP-Link RE220) to create a new WiFi network for the 3D printers.
