Settling for mint linux

Linux Platform Experience

Summary

After a year of working with and developing on the Linux platform, the decision was made to settle on Mint Linux.

Key Points

• Tried Ubuntu, vanilla Linux, and MX Linux.
• Felt there was a lot of confusion and misinformation regarding Linux distributions.
• Development talent is wasted on building operating systems that are supposed to be better or safer, but end up being unorganized and inconsistent.

Transition from Microsoft

Problem

Desire to eliminate Microsoft from the network but unable to do so due to reliance on Microsoft-dependent equipment.

Solution

• Inroads have been made on the CNC front, allowing most machine control to be run from Linux.
• Embedded device development is all done with Linux.

Future Plans

Overview

Objective is to create instructional content on Mint Linux.

Notes

• Mint Linux was chosen for its ease of use and organization compared to other distributions.
• The transition to Linux is seen as a positive development, especially for CNC and embedded device development.
