Slicing before printing (settings)

Wall Thickness

- Correct wall thickness reduces material use and print time.
- Varies by material.
- Control print quality by selecting print order of wall (internal or outer first).

Layer Height

- Describes the height of each layer.
- Decrease for high detail prints to achieve a smooth surface finish; increases print time.
- Increase for low detail prints to minimize print time but may decrease surface finish.

Nozzle and Bed Temperature

- Increase nozzle temperature for high-speed extrusion to melt material faster.
- Moisture-absorbed filaments may require higher melting points.
- Adjust heatbed temperature according to material to ensure good adhesion and reduce warping.

Retraction

- Direct Drive Extruder: Set retraction distance less than 1mm.
- Bowden Extruder: Set retraction distance less than 4mm.

Line Width

- Control the width of a single printed line.
- Types of lines include:
- Top and Bottom
- Infill
- Skirt and Brim
- Support
- Initial

Summary

- Important parameters during slicing include wall thickness, layer height, layer width, nozzle and bed temperature, retraction, and line width.
- Adjust these parameters based on the material and desired print quality.

Key Points

- Proper wall thickness and print order affect material use and print time.
- Layer height impacts detail and surface finish.
- Nozzle and bed temperature settings are critical for material extrusion and adhesion.
- Retraction settings vary by extruder type.
- Line width control is essential for print quality and efficiency.
